What is My Philosophy on Acting?

When you take acting lessons from Winters Vocal Studio, you will obtain a clear understanding of what acting is all about.  I use the Sanford Meisner approach which is something I learned while studying at William Esper's Acting Program in NYC, NY.   Meisner once said that how to make an actor come alive "is based on bringing the actor back to his emotional impulses and to acting that is firmly rooted in the instinctive. It is based on the fact that all good acting comes from the heart, as it were, and that there’s no mentality to it.”   

What to Expect During Your Lesson:

Enhancing the student's experience and increasing their acting skills, various tools are used to bring out the "instincts" needed as an actor.   We use monologue work, cold reads, audition preparation, scene study, improvisation, and repetition games.  These are designed to be fun and engaging!  In addition, we work on voice & speech including: dialects and accents, diction and enunciation, inflection, breathing, vocal projection and articulation.   

You will receive materials to be successful in reading television commercial copy.  Just because they are called “cold readings” doesn’t mean you can’t prepare for them.  By practicing commercial copy, you get used to the world of TV.   You can use copy again and again to learn some basic formats of commercials and how they tell a story.  You will learn how to utilize your personality, the one-of-a-kind you, into any commercial. Showing your personality is a big part of getting a callback!!  Commercials are a great way to break into acting!

Goal:

Through the use of the tools and professional instruction, you will develop a strong foundation which will help to unleash your hidden (or not so hidden) acting talents.  You will be prepared for a future journey as a successful actor, artist and ultimately, a vibrant stage, TV, and/or screen performer!

I have successfully helped numerous students obtain scholarships and entry into some of the nation's top College’s and Art Conservatories.  Many of my students have had successful auditions into schools of choice such as, BAK, Dryfoos, G-Star School of the Arts.  In addition, I have helped prepare students for TV, commercial, movie, and theater auditions in NYC, Miami, Orlando, and right here in West Palm Beach.
